Their Walk Home

A short, gentle film that gives a child a way to picture the goodbye — and a ritual to hold afterward. Watched together, never alone.

What your child will see

A slow, quiet 90-second film: the person or pet you're remembering walks a peaceful path toward warm light — their stairway home. No words are spoken. Their name appears once, softly. The film ends with a single invitation, on screen, for the two of you to do together: light a candle tonight and say goodnight. That candle — or drawing, or planted flower — is where the real work happens. The film just opens the door.

Every family chooses the imagery that fits their beliefs: gates of light, a field of light, a night sky of stars, or the rainbow bridge for pets.

Why it's built this way

Children grieve differently than adults — they re-ask, re-tell, and process in bursts. Research on bereaved children points to the same core supports again and again: honest, simple truth-telling; doing something active with the memory; and an adult beside them while they do it. This film is engineered around exactly those three.

How it works

Honest boundaries

This is an artistic interpretation created from your photo — not a photorealistic reconstruction, and not therapy. It is a keepsake and a conversation-starter for families. If your child's grief feels overwhelming or unending — sleep problems, lasting withdrawal, talk of self-harm — please reach out to a professional; the Dougy Center and the National Alliance for Children's Grief can help you find local support. Your photo is used for your film only: never trained on, never posted, never shared.
